4 Ways to Go Green in Your Raleigh Apartment
Going green in your Raleigh apartment doesn’t have to be hard. There are actually lots of easy ways to help the environment! Just check out these easy changes from Better Homes and Gardens:
Reduce Vampire Energy – Many electronics and appliances such of cell phone chargers and TVs continue to use power even after they’re turned off. You can cut down on wasted energy by simply unplugging electronics or by turning them off with a power strip when not in use.- Buy from Local Farms – The average piece of produce travels an average of about 1,500 miles before arriving at the typical grocery store. That’s a huge amount of fuel that could saved if more people would buy their food locally. Plus, local grown food tends to be fresher which means it will taste better!
- Do Full Loads – A great way to save on your water and electric bill is to avoid running your dish washer and washer for less than a full load. Running them on warm or cold water will also help since about 90% of the power used by a clothes washer and 80% of the electricity used a dishwasher goes toward heating the water.
- Swap out Your Bulbs – Replacing your incandescent bulbs with compact fluorescent bulbs (CFLs) is an easy change to make. Plus, this can drastically reduce your power consumption since CFLs only use 1/4 of the electricity of incandescent bulbs. Not only will you save money on your power bill, but you’ll have to replace them less since CFLs can last up to ten times longer than incandescent bulbs.
